Founded in 2015, Hong Kong Free Press is an impartial, non-profit, award-winning English-language newspaper.
Run by journalists, backed by readers and 100% independent, HKFP is governed by a public code of ethics.
HKFP has an impartial stance, transparent funding, and balanced coverage guided by an Ethics Code and Corrections Policy. We launched in 2015 amid rising concerns over declining press freedom in Hong Kong. HKFP was the city’s first crowdfunded media outlet, and the fastest-funded, largest project of its time – we are now sustained by direct one-off and monthly contributions from readers.
The 2023 HKFP Team
Our mission: We aim to be the most independent and credible English-language news source in Greater China. We seek to amplify the voices of the voiceless, not the powerful. The HKFP team is fully committed to reporting the facts, without fear, favour or interference.
HKFP is only answerable to readers, not shareholders, media tycoons or corporate umbrella groups. Learn more about how you can support us and ensure our independence.
Our news is available, for free, wherever you are: On Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Instagram, Mastodon, Pushbullet, Flipboard, News360, Psiphon, Apple News, MSN, Factiva, Nordot, LexisNexis, ProQuest, on Telegram (or add our bot: @hkfp_bot) and through our Android, Apple and Windows phone apps.
Nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize, HKFP is home to a mix of breaking news, original reporting, features and interviews. If you believe Hong Kong needs an independent English news source, please support us.
